Creating a new user account is a temporary fix for me, as the new account becomes a problem a few days. Right-click an empty area of the taskbar and choose "Properties". 2. If this is not an option, there has been limited success by exiting the software for the mouse that runs in the task-bar or remapping unused keys via the software provided I to this day have no clue what the heck happened. I was spectulating that it might be interference from my USB/wireless keyboard & mouse from my desktop.

It seems that some optical mice may have a problem with shiny surfaces more than others. Though, that doesn't explain why when I've unplugged it, the issue remains. Will contact Dell to see what they are doing to fix this, and suggest all others to contact their manufacturers. I called Dell again, this time they said to change my mouse pad to a lighter color, and pointed out that they had fixed the problem by redesigning their mouse pad

Thank you for helping us maintain CNET's great community. Then for a more permanent solution, I removed the stuck-on surface from the mousepad which left just fabric underneath. As a wild guess, perhaps its a static electricity problem & a charge develops between the moving mouse and the pad & somehow effects the control signal. ???
